Print- is it still useful and relevant as a marketing tool?

Is mail a dead form of marketing? Not according to one of my realtor clients who said new home buyer inquiries increased after he did a direct mailer advertising his new listings and services. If you create a targeted printed piece to mail out with a service like every door direct that utilizes your local mailing lists from the post office, it's pretty easy too. Once a postcard is designed, there's no stopping you from posting it on your social media or website too, to get even more views.

Re-use your print graphics in different formats for the most bang for your buck!

Hand out printed flyers or one-sheets at a live event, and then get extra mileage out of them by posting them on your website or social channels.

I hear clients say, “No one uses business cards anymore.” I think that really depends on who is using it. If you are at a trade show, sales or networking event, or elsewhere and meet face to face with a client or contact, and value the traditional means of passing your information to them in a personal way, there is no reason not to continue to do so. It makes you pause and connect, and gives them a handy visual representation of your brand while you are at it. (Make sure you care about branding even your business cards- it all matters because it all represents your business and says you care about it). But you can add on other ways to contact you as well. Why not print out a VCard or QR code that links directly to your product information or contact info, that your booth visitors, for instance, can scan to easily populate their device with what you want them to know about your business and getting in touch. It’s also a great way to let poeple seek more, without having to jam it all in one place or handout for them to read or process.

I got started when print was the only thing, so I still hold it dear, but I also like having the immediacy and convenience of digital design. And I like being more environmentally conscious by limiting what I decide to print for my business. And I always stress to my clients that a website works for them 24/7 and is such a useful way to tell your story and reach your audience.
